Name of your website?

The Minding Centre

Your name?

Ratna Lim

Your Location (city, etc)

Singapore

Please give us a short summary of your website?

Provide people helping skills, such as meditation, counselling, and therapy. Provide links to the latest scientific papers and studies on the meditation.

What inspired you to launch your own website?

Reach out to as many people as possible through the internet at a lowest cost, as such able to give The Minding Centre's service to people at the lowest cost possible.

When did you launch your first website, and what was it?

The first website was launched in August 2006 by my husband Piya Tan and later took over by me because of his busy work schedule. It is The Dharmafarer Website (http://dharmafarer.googlepages.com). It was started to upload his papers and study notes so that his students can download them for studies. It has helped a lot of people making their life more fulfilling and happier. Today it has 19,100 hits.

How did you decide on a name for your website?

The name, "the Minding Centre" was been chosen because I was minding the school children and my husband was minding the adults to mind their minds. The mind is the most powerful organ we have and it can be trained to do wonders or ignore it and be led by it. A beautiful, calm and well trained mind can create beautiful things, such as art, music, etc. An untrained mind destroys, make wars and bring sufferings.

What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?

It is simple, down to earth and user friendly. It informs and educates people.

What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)

To promote courses that help people to be happy. When others are happy, we are happy, the world will be a better place for everyone.

How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?

The secret to success in life is not measure by money, but to live within our means and keeping to the middle way. Money is instrumental, which is important because it provide us with food, clothing, shelter and medicinal support. We cannot buy happiness with money, nor can we take it with us when we leave this world. Be present in what we are doing, and enjoy every moment of it.

If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?

Perhaps I may build a mind gym and a library for those who want to better themselves and help others.

If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?

Yes.

What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?

So far none.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Improving the website.

What method has been most successful for promoting your website?

By emails, personal contacts, friends' recommendation.

How has running your website differed from your expectations?

It is more convenient, effective, environmental friendly compare to the traditional way of using paper fliers and snail mails.

How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?

3 years. for as long as I need to.

Do you want to udgrade your website?

Yes, I am waiting for my children to grow up. So that they can help me.
