You would think that some people are stupid if they become like martyrs and stay in relationships that are dysfunctional and clearly hopeless. In fact, I wonder about the same thing as well.It turns out that one major factor leading to this "martyrdom" is the lack of self-esteem. Some people just feel their self-worth whenever they are in a romantic relationship. That is the sad, sad truth.
