What inspired you to launch your own website?
It can be very hard to find a therapist - especially if you don't have insurance. Asking friends may be embarrassing. The phone book just doesn't tell you enough about a therapist's work or personality. The website is my way of letting people know who I am and how I can help. This allows them to decide if my approach is a good fit for them.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first psychotherapy site was called www.peacewithyourself.com. I chose this because peace is my hope for my clients. I also really liked having the email address "b@peacewithyourself.com. This site was much simpler and more basic than my current site. But it allowed me to learn how the web works.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
In California, therapists must use their own name for their therapy practices unless they belong to a group of three or more practitioners. Since I'm a sole practitioner, I needed to use my own name. I stayed with that for the website for the sake of consistency.
What makes it different from other, similar offerings?
I've tried to do more than just advertise my services. I have a little virtual bookstore with Amazon links to books that I recommend for my clients. I also offer free articles and links to websites that I find healing. My site also links to Cafe Press where I have Hypnotherapy CDs for sale. And I have a blog on Emotional Eating which I hope is a good, free, resource for people struggling with eating disorders and food related issues.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Google - both organic and AdWords
